Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
What are the entrance requirements?
A.

You must be aged 17-22 years. There are no specific requirements other than age but you must show that you are willing to work hard and apply yourself, and be committed to all aspects of the programme. You may also be asked for a church reference.

Q.
How academic is the programme?
A.

Although it is a tertiary level programme it is different than university because the programme is a mix of classroom, community, service and mission – the academic and practical all tied in together. Yes there are some first-year courses that you will need to take with the other Carey students and it is important that you work and study well in this as passing these are requirements to complete the Certificate of Applied Theology. Another important point is that six out of the eight papers you do can also be cross-credited to the Bachelor of Applied Theology if you choose to continue your study at Carey beyond your Intermission year.

Q.
When does Intermission begin and finish?
A.

The programme begins each year in late February and finishes around mid November. This includes mid semester and mid year breaks as well, however some of the mission trips will take place during these breaks. Some other service activities may also take place over holidays e.g. Easter camps work (other than youth leadership).

Q.
When do enrolments open each year?
A.

Enrolment opens around September prior to the year of study. When ready forms will be available for download from the home page or contact Neroli to be sent one. registrar@carey.ac.nz

Q.
What is the deadline for enrolments?
A.

This is usually a couple of weeks prior to the programme beginning. Deadline dates will be made clear on the website once confirmed. The first twenty suitable applicants will be taken and once the course is full students could go on a waiting list.

Q.
Is accommodation provided? Is there a missional type house the Intermission students can live in?
A.

At the moment accommodation is not provided. And although we like the idea of a missional community, this is something for the future. Often once students are on the programme, groups of flatmates form and many of the students end up flatting together.
Also check out wwww.canz.co.nz - the Christian accommodation website for NZ.

Q.
Are there Open Days when I can come and check out the college?
A.

Yes definitely. There are several Tuesdays a year designed specifically for this. Please look on the main Carey website for details, www.carey.ac.nz or register your interest with Neroli at registrar@carey.ac.nz
However if you would like to come outside of specific open day times just contact us in advance for this to be arranged.
